First Sunday of Advent Mathew 24:37-44 The Coming of the Lied The first stanza of a famous liturgical hymn in the German language is the following: “Mache dich auf und werde Licht, then dein Licht kommt.“ It means: „Open you up and become light, your light is coming.“ This light, which we expect, is Jesus Christ, the light of the world. We are invited in the season of Advent to become light; like Christ, the light of the world. Today’s Gospel reports about the unexpected return of the Son of Man. He comes on the day or in the night or unexpected even like a thief. None of the humans knows about the time of his arrival; not even angels know it; only the Father in heaven.
